The Information Systems Discipline in Latin America in the era of Digital Transformation

A brief history of the evolution of the IS discipline in the region is introduced to gain insights on its current status, followed by a proposal of a research agenda based on a digital transformation model, along with the description of an ongoing research project on the subject.
Guillermo Rodríguez-Abitia holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems, by the University of Texas at Arlington, where he attended as a Fulbright scholar. He has more than 35 years of academic experience in various institutions. He is the former president and founder of the Latin American and Caribbean chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), co-founder of the Latin American and Caribbean Journal of the AIS (RELCASI), twice co-chair of the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), former member of the AIS Council, and active member of many associations with extensive journal editorial work. He is currently the director for Innovation and Technology Development at the General Direction of Information and Comunications Technologies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
